Rogue-like games are a unique and challenging genre of video games that have been increasing in popularity in recent years. These games are known for their randomly generated levels, permadeath mechanics, and the fact that each playthrough is a new and unique experience. I have spent hundreds of hours playing succesful rogue-like games such as Nuclear Throne, Slay the Spire and Risk of Rain 2. It was my dream to create my own rogue-like game, combining my favorite mechanics and adding my own unique twist.

As my first major project, Metallophobia served as a great way to sharpen my core software development skills such as object-oriented programming and algorithm design. During the later stages I was also able to develop more specific skills regarding video game development such as level design, creating intuitive and informational UI, and balancing gameplay.
